A Utah State University basketball player who is accused of raping a woman at a fraternity party has been charged with a federal felony count of sexual battery.
The Utes said Thursday the case was upgraded from a misdemeanor to a felony charge after a woman reported the alleged assault at the Kappa Alpha Theta fraternity on Oct. 1.
Utes coach Tyreke Evans said Thursday that the woman was not the victim in the incident and that it was a consensual encounter.
Uts players have been placed on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
They were not immediately available for comment.UTS president Michael P. Williams said in a statement the university will cooperate with any and all law enforcement agencies investigating this matter.
