COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) The number of students graduating from the University of Ohio is set to double in the next five years, as the state’s economic recovery continues to grow.
The University of Cincinnati’s tuition for the 2019-20 academic year has been set at $30,842, up from $25,624 in 2020.
That compares to the $22,739 the school paid in 2020 and the $18,919 it paid in 2019.
“I think the tuition increase reflects the strong growth in our economy and the continued demand for higher education in Ohio,” said University of Wisconsin-Madison Chancellor Richard J. Evans, in a statement.
The school’s average tuition cost for the 2017-18 academic year was $19,084.
The average for the current academic year is $22.04 per credit hour, up $3,664 from the previous year.
Columbus is Ohio’s top-ranked public university, according to a ranking released Tuesday by the National Association of College and University Business Leaders.
That’s the second consecutive year the university has been in the top spot.
Ohio ranks No. 2 nationally in enrollment, the highest in the nation, according a 2016 study by the New America Foundation.
Columbia’s tuition increase is the second largest in the country for the next two years.
The Ohio State University’s tuition was up $9,400 from 2020.
A total of 5,700 students enrolled at Ohio State in 2019-2020, up 8 percent from the year before.
The tuition increases are among the highest on the university’s campus, with the average annual tuition in the state of Ohio at $19.68, according an annual report from the Ohio Association of Schools of Business.
The total number of Ohio State students who have graduated has more than doubled from 2,912 to 4,566 since 2000, according the report.
Ohio State is Ohio State’s only public school to have its tuition increased by more than $1,000.
The state has a $1.4 trillion economy, with Ohio’s share of the national economy more than double that of the nation as a whole.
That has helped keep tuition levels down for students.
For every $1 spent on tuition, the average Ohio State student is expected to earn about $1 less, according state data.
ColumbiU’s tuition increases have sparked concern that tuition costs will keep rising even as the university tries to increase its enrollment.
“It’s a pretty clear indication of the kind of economic environment that’s been built in this state,” said David C. Olinger, the state representative for the Ohio Student Association.
“I just don’t think we have enough people going to colleges to fill the demand.
You can see this increase as a signal that the economic outlook is not improving.”
Columbus’ tuition is set by state law.
The university has to pay the state for all state subsidies, including grants and loans, for students, as well as state funding for state employees.
